About me

Hi, I’m Henrik Jernevad. I’m born and raised in a rather small town north of Gothenburg called Stenungsund. I lived there until fall 2005 when I moved to Seattle, USA for one year of studies. Except for studying, I also discovered the wonderful sport of Ultimate. After getting back from the US, I moved into the apartment in Gothenburg where I now live.

Work

Currently, I am co-owner and CTO of MindValue AB, a web development start-up. We delivering customized web sites based on our flexible platform — it could be anything from a simple web page to a full-blown community or content management system.

My studies

(Copyright Chalmers University of Technology.)In 2002 I started at the Software Engineering program at Chalmers University of Technology. The program is four and a half year long and will result in the Swedish title “civilingengör” as well as a more internationally accepted Master of Science degree.

The first year was really fun and not so incredibly hard. The second year was a bit harder, although that might have something to do with me taking about 50% more courses than normal study pace. ;-) Third year was not really harder, but more strenuous.

(Copyright University of Washington.)Instead of continuing with my fourth year at Chalmers, I took the chance to study my fourth year abroad. I chose University of Washington in Seattle. Study-wise that was most likely the best choice I’ve ever made. I was rather low on energy after three years at Chalmers, and “starting over” in Seattle was really refreshing. Highly recommended!

Military service

(Copyright Swedish Armed Forces.)Fall 2001 I started my military service as “sambandsgruppchef” at T2, Skövde. There I spent 10 months that I most likely will never forget. It was 10 months of blood, sweat and tears. ;-) I reached the grade of “furir” (equivalent to the American grade sergeant) and learned a lot about micro wave communication and leadership, not to mention that I actually learned quite a lot about myself.

Interests

One of my biggest interests is without question computers in general, and software development in particular. However, while I work with that during daytime, I try to do other things outside work. Playing Ultimate and disc golf are two of my major interests outside the technology area. And of course, spending time with friends and going out every now and then never hurts.

Finally

To crush a myth: There really are no polar bears walking in the streets in Sweden! Well, I’m sorry to let you down, but that’s the truth.
